Starting out in a career in health & safety
In this episode, we hear from two women at the start of their careers, speaking about their journey into health & safety and the challenges they have faced along the way. Cindy Bell, SHE Advisor at Greggs, discusses her varied role and her advice for starting out in a career in health & safety. Then, Shari Bowen, HSSE Officer at Massy Distribution, talks about working in health & safety in the Caribbean and the challenges of working in a male-dominated environment.
Following in the footsteps of Robert Jukes and Lucilla Cummings, Cindy Bell was named both SHP’s Rising Star in Manufacturing and Rising Star UK for 2021, for her work as SHE Advisor at Greggs.
Cindy won the judges over with her enthusiasm and commitment to improving working operations for employees. The panel was also captivated by her passion for integrating new technology into the workplace, taking the time to learn about ways to improve operations outside of her set working hours. In the episode, Cindy speaks about how she got into health & safety and provides advice for people wanting to start out on a career in the profession.
We then hear SHP’s International Rising Star for 2021, Shari Bowen, who HSSE Officer at Massy Distribution Ltd., one of the largest distribution companies in the Caribbean basin. Shari has been instrumental in developing and promoting safety and health.
During the chat, Shari speaks about how she got into the profession and her desire to engage with other women in the field, using social media to interact with other Caribbean women working in health and safety.
